Badly Behaved or Spirited?

Often the children that are devils to bring up can turn out to be the real stars and leaders of the future - assuming parents, teachers and adults can avoid quashing their potential and self-esteem when they are young.

But, that is no consolation to parents who suffer the daily stress, challenges and often embarrassment of a child who is more than other children - more argumentative, more persistent, more challenging, more sensitive, more perceptive and/or more uncomfortable with change.

Countless stories have been reported recently in the media of disruptive children. These children are often labelled "difficult" and so can face exclusion from activities at school or cause problems at home. But often the behaviours that people can't tolerate in children are the very things that they admire in adults. For instance, an argumentative child, is a child who sees things from a different perspective and has the confidence to express his or her ideas - a great business asset!

Channelling behaviour by using positive, tried and tested techniques helps parents and teachers coach children to express their ideas and opinions in confident and socially acceptable ways.

Spiritedkids.com was set up to help parents and teachers cope with children with big personalities. It's work allows parents and teachers to share their experiences with each other and with experienced consultants and to identify the triggers that lead to challenging behaviours. Once this is done it is possible to develop strategies that reduce the conflict and struggles and help enhance the child's self-esteem and self-management skills.
